Focus on US Employment --  July 2014 Update By Hazel Henderson Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by a healthy 288.000 in June, good news after the 2.8% drop in GDP-growth for Q1. The 224,000 jobs added in May followed April’s 304,000. Upward revisions: to 203,000 from the 192,000 reported for March; 222,000 up from 197,000 in February and from 129,000 to 144,000 in January, show the recovery is still on track. The unemployment rate dropped to 6.1% still reflecting the low civilian labor force participation rate at 62.8%. Employment gains averaged 182,000 jobs per month in 2013. It remains difficult to find information on government jobs, but they are now included in the main BLS summary. Continued losses of government jobs are key to understanding the state of the recovery.
