Writ of Mandamus to SCOTUS

“Ethical Markets has been in touch with a large coalition of grassroots groups and activists, legal scholars, NGOs  and business leaders, who  have in the past month, submitted a Writ of Mandamus to the USA Supreme Court petitioning for a stay in ratifying the 2016 election, due to  the now  well-established reports on Russian interference in this election.

In many democracies, such a flawed election would have triggered a “snap election” with no further campaigning, money-raising, speeches, etc. just a newly scheduled date for such a new election.   Since, this is more complicated in the USA and citizens would feel reluctant to go through such a demeaning process again, these grassroots leaders instead petitioned the US Supreme Court under the US Constitution’s  Guarantee clause, wherein the federal government assures the states of protection against  “foreign invasion”.

The citizens’ Writ calls for an updated interpretation of this Guarantee clause to include invasion of US “cyber territory”, as has occurred with the Russian incursion.

The remedy sought is a new election, and this has received serious comment by experts, including well-known lawyers who wish not to be identified as well as an article in Roll Call.  We applaud such grassroots civic leadership and particularly the expert work in drafting the Writ by Jerroll Sanders, and her IT company, based in St. Louis, Missouri.  We applaud such civic leadership!  ~Hazel Henderson, Editor.”
