Fellow Katervans,

Winning a Katerva Award gets you far in your business and the communities it serves.

Check out the enchanting videos below of 3 of our past winners: Reef Check, Échale A Tu Casa, and last but not least, Pasteurizing Technology Group.

The videos were created pro-bono by ecodeo (eee ‘ kod ‘ ee ‘ oh, the triple portmanteau for eco + code + video) for the winners as part of the awards package in their respective years.

1. Reef Check: Katerva 2012 Award winner for Environment category (previously Ecosystem Conservation). Reef Check have conducted over 8,000 surveys of reef health across the globe.

The Reef Check Foundation (reefcheck.org) is the worlds largest reef monitoring network. The Reef Check Foundation is a non-profit that started in Southern California in 1996 with a mission to empower local communities through grassroots research, conservation, and education to protect and rehabilitate reefs worldwide. This video was produced by Ecodeo when Reef Check won the Katerva 2012 Ecosystem conservation award.

Not only do they work to chart the state of coral reefs and the connected food chains around the globe, but Reef Check have also introduced a number of educational programs for children, including in 2014 an “immersion learning” program for training kids to swim, snorkel, and start to learn marine biology which was piloted successfully in Haiti.

2. Échale! A Tu Casa: Katerva 2012 People’s Choice winner. They facilitate building houses for the families, by the families, in under-served areas in Mexico, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Echale! A Tu Casa
¡Échale! a tu casa, is an assisted self-build program that provides sustainable community development through social housing production. For an affordable price, program participants can improve their home or build a quality home in just one month — a process that would otherwise take 10-15 years. In Mexico, 5.7 million families live in overcrowded houses made of unstable or dangerous materials. Some 25.8 million people, or almost a fifth of Mexico’s population, do not live in physically stable, safe homes and are in need of adequate housing. Ecodeo produced this video with footage sent from the organization when they won the Katerva Urban Design Award in 2012

Besides providing housing and creating jobs for the needy, Echale A Tu Casa uses a building material that’s 90% inert ground, and adapts eco-technologies for equipping the houses, including bio-digestors, rainwater collection systems, and solar heaters. A truly sustainable housing solution.

3. Pasteurizing Technology Group: Katerva 2013 Award winner for Materials & Resources category. PTG’s proprietary technology is revolutionizing wastewater disinfection while generating renewable energy.

Pasteurizing Technology Group
PTG is an incredible sustainable water technology that helps companies in the food processing, beer, and agriculture industries to reduce their water and energy costs. PTG’s award-winning systems provide energy generation with industrial wastewater treatment. Ecodeo produced this overview video of PTG’s work when they won the 2013 Katerva Materials & Resources Award

Only few weeks after PTG won its Katerva Award, it succeeded in raising $5 million in Series A financing. Good omen? We think so. We also trust the efficacy of our acceleration program in each of our winners’ success.

You too can take your venture places. The Katerva Award winners get the legal consulting, business advisory, market research, and advertising & communications services they need; among others. All professional. All pro-bono.

But you got to hurry up and submit your application to be considered for the 2017 Awards round.

Two important deadlines are looming:

  • December 1st – deadline for submitting the Nominee Candidate Form
  • December 15th – deadline for completing the Assessment Tool (which you’ll be invited to complete after submitting the aforementioned Form)

If any of the above deadlines are missed, the application will be simply pushed into the 2018 Awards round.

We look forward to accelerating the future with you.

With love,
Basel
