Cinderella of Wall Street by Lydia Fisher
Reviewed by Rosalinda Sanquiche
Lydia Fisher offers an honest assessment of her rise on Wall Street and disillusionment with the system. As a strong woman, smart and ambitious, she faced the same questions of femininity, motherhood and professional advancement that so many struggle with. In poignant detail, she describes her journey from childhood to Bear Sterns with emotional authenticity while providing readers with practical lessons on how markets work and definitions of terms bandied around on MSNBC and Bloomberg as if we should all be in on the code. She acknowledges our frustration by highlighting her own and writes with compassion to the employees and investors who feel betrayed by a financial system falsely marketed as in the best interest of all when actually pursuing the best for a few — those at the top of an exclusive and exclusionary club. In voicing her own journey, Fisher gives voice to all of us also disillusioned by the financial crisis of 2008-2009 and provides hope that wisdom and integrity can carry one to fulfillment.
